Video game developer Matt Thorson announced on Twitter that he has been working diligently for the last few months on Towerfall. The game originally released on the unpopular Ouya console in 2013. However, was re-released later as Towerfall Ascension for PlayStation 4 and PC. Now he admits to working on an Xbox One version as well.
The local multiplayer battle arena lets up to four players fight it out with archery and head stomps. The official description on the itch.io page reads:
Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, TowerFall Ascension is a 4-player local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but hard to master and combat is fierce. Loot treasure chests for game-changing power-ups, master the art of catching arrows out of the air, or descend on your foes and stomp them into submission. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, cross-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.
A tweet from Matt Thorson states that Towerfall Ascension and its Dark World DLC will both be available on the console and it is ‘awesome’. Currently the game sells for $14.99 so we’ll likely see a similar price tag with the console’s release.

In addition, Matt recently pushed the limits of the 4-player multiplayer. He released the 8-player modded version of Towerfall Ascension. The $8.88 price tag for the new version doesn’t include the single player campaign, only the local multiplayer battle arena that has been tweaked significantly for larger fights.
Even though the two announcements so close together got fans excited, Thorson rained on the parade. He confirmed via Twitter that the 8-player mod wouldn’t be available on Xbox Store or anywhere else for that matter.
I should clarify that TowerFall 8-Player is only on itch.io and I have no plans to sell it anywhere else

It is unfortunate that we don’t have a release date yet. Given that Towerfall sold well with its exclusive Ouya release, fans will likely expect the same reaction to the popular party game.
