Windows 8.1, 10 Update Makes Bing Desktop Available for Download
To be able to search from desktop in Windows or Windows 8.1, you will need to download either Google or Bing. But now I’ve discovered that a fresh update makes it available for download via Windows Update.
I have turned off automatic updates in the Windows Store and Windows Update so that I could be notified of what exactly has been made new or changed by Microsoft. So, if you too are doing the same thing, then there’s a chance that you have noticed what I did – that Microsoft has made the Bing Desktop tool available for download as a Windows 8.1 updated.
Online searches straight from the desktop
As you can see above image, I’ve installed Bing Desktop v 1.3.1 on today’s date and the update was an optional one. It’s a clever way for Microsoft to promote its search engine. By using Bing Desktop in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you can search Bing straight from the desktop, without having to open a browsers to do it. Of course, the results will appear in a new browser page.
