Blackbird Interactive shares system requirements for Homeworld 3, most PCs should be able to run it

In a surprising move, Blackbird Interactive shared the detailed system requirements for Homeworld 3 weeks before launch. The game is set to hit release on May 13, 2024.
The comprehensive list of system requirements for the different graphical performance scenarios shared by Blackbird Interactive helps get some insights into the level of performance and gameplay you will experience on your PC.
As for the minimum requirements or the Low in-game graphics preset, you need an Intel i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X CPU, NVIDIA GTX 1060 or an equivalent GPU, 12 GB RAM, and 6 GB VRAM, which is pretty basic.
Even for the recommended and high segments, the system requirements are pretty reasonable when it comes to CPU, not requiring anything above Intel i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. And there’s a reason for it, as explained by Blackbird Interactive to PC GAMER.
Due to the amount of physics and calculations happening throughout gameplay Homeworld 3 is CPU bound, not GPU bound. In terms of the way Homeworld 3 interacts with players CPU’s, we’ve found during development that core count doesn’t matter nearly as much as core speed. Six cores are the expected minimum, as the game routinely uses four fully. Essentially, more cores won’t necessarily translate to better performance.
An even more surprising aspect of Homeworld 3’s system requirements is the storage. It’s just 40 GB!
That’s way too low, considering modern popular titles can easily occupy double that. Baldur’s Gate 3 needs 150 GB of free storage, while Helldivers 2 requires 100 GB.
Blackbird Interactive hasn’t yet shared what FPS (frame rate per second) we can expect under the different graphical performance scenarios. But with Homeworld 3’s launch just weeks away, we won’t have to wait that long to find out!
