defer Windows 10 v1903

Every time Microsoft launches a new upgrade to Windows 10, users have the option to delay it for a few weeks or months.

As a quick reminder, only Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise or Education users can block new updates for months on end.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 Home doesn’t have any update deferral options.

Why should I defer Windows 10 v1903?

The new Windows 10 19H1 will be launched next month — hence the code name Windows 10 April 2019 Update. But before consumers and organizations will be able to download it, you should learn more about it.

In 2018, the update meant for April 2018 was delayed for over 20 days and finally launched in May. Microsoft explained that the delay was due to some finalization problems.

But this is not all for 2018, as the update prepared for October was launched on time indeed, but with some technical issues. This one was immediately stopped, because the manual update was deleting personal user files.

Even though Microsoft tried to stop the update as fast as they could, it still affected millions of users. The issues were of different types, such as ZIP extraction fault, an activation downgrade flaw and a file association problem.

So after all of this, delaying the new update is maybe the best decision, especially for organizations users. Microsoft allows enterprises and education editions to delay Windows 10 update install for months on end.

First update wave is always buggy

As you can see, the first update wave is almost always buggy. The best approach is to simply defer the updates for as long as you can.

In this manner, by the time you hit the update button, Microsoft will have hopefully fixed all the bugs and issues reported by the first users who installed the new OS version.
