The upcoming Star Wars Squadrons video game has been one of the worst kept gaming secrets in recent times with numerous leaks confirming its existence and focus and even a banner prematurely showing on the Xbox website over the last 24 hours.
EA finally confirmed its existence today with a tweet showing its official cover artwork and logo and an announcement for a trailer debut on YouTube on Monday at 8AM PT.
Judging from the name and artwork, this new Star Wars game is clearly going to focus on aerial combat gameplay and will at least feature locations, battles, and ships from the Original Trilogy. While not confirmed yet, VB has stated that several of their sources have told them that Star Wars Squadrons will feature a single-player campaign mode but its main focus will be the online multiplayer.

It will be interesting to see what the gameplay will look like in the trailer and if it will resemble the Starfighter Assault combat from Star Wars Battlefront II which, despite being the least-popular game mode, was incredibly well done and looked phenomenal. Eyes will also be on what Star Wars eras the game will represent. With Battlefront II players being rather spoilt with Prequel, Original, and Sequel era content, Squadrons could face a bit of pushback if it only focuses on Episodes IV through VI.
With Microsoft’s next gen Xbox Series X console due for release later this year, many will be curious to see if Squadrons is just an Xbox One title or if it will have a Series X version as well.
