Call of Duty 2024 reportedly will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft reportedly will launch Call of Duty 2024 (Call of Duty Black Ops 6) straight to Xbox Game Pass. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company will announce its plans at the Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for June 9.

If the report about the launch of Call of Duty 2024 is true, this could be one of the biggest Day One inclusions to Xbox Game Pass since the service’s inception in 2017.

Call of Duty 2024 could see day one release straight into Xbox Game Pass

Let’s not forget that the WSJ’s report is in line with Xbox President Sarah Bond’s recent comments from an interview with Bloomberg from a week ago. She indicated that all Microsoft’s games including those from Activision will launch directly into Game Pass.

In the latest report, The Wall Street Journal mentions:

Microsoft plans a major shakeup of its video game sales strategy by releasing the coming installment of Call of Duty to its subscription service instead of the longtime, lucrative approach of only selling it a la carte.

Microsoft could raise the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as well

The WSJ report didn’t mention if Microsoft plans to charge additionally for Call of Duty 2024 in Game Pass. Nor, the report adds whether the company will hike the subscription fee of Game Pass Ultimate.

However, reporting for The Verge, Tom Warren had his say about the price hike of the service. In the latest report, Warren adds:

I understand Microsoft has been considering raising the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate pricing again. Activision is currently targeting a late October release of the next Call of Duty, which is rumored to be set during the ’90s Gulf War.

Microsoft seems to believe including the latest Call of Duty 2024 game will boost the Xbox Gampass Subscriber count. In February, the company announced that Xbox Game Pass hit 34 million subscribers. Notably, it is quite a big jump from the 22 million in 2022.

Neither Microsoft nor Activision commented about the day-one launch of Call of Duty 2024 in Xbox Game Pass. Let’s not forget that the game could be released in October 2024. Moreover, Microsoft plans to announce several other Xbox games coming in the latter half of 2024.
