The list of Backward Compatible games for the Xbox One is growing impressively with classic titles from the previous Xbox generation. As we’ve noted, Microsoft is now releasing Backward Compatible titles as they become available, and today a new one was released to follow up with last week’s games.
For nostalgic gamers, nothing beats the experience brought about by true classics of gaming history, and Microsoft seems to know it, judging from the arrival of Galaga. The news was broken by Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb on Twitter.

Galaga is a classic arcade shooter, featuring a spaceship fending off waves of aliens, and arguably the father of the “shoot-em-up” game genre. The game has become part of popular culture, and is frequently referenced on media, with notable example including action blockbuster The Avengers. The game hits Xbox Live Arcade in 2010 for the Xbox 360, and is now available for the Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. The title is available for $4.99; Owners of the title on the Xbox 360 will be able to download it for free, however.
Galaga will join its brethren of the arcade golden age like Asteroids and Metal Slug on the Xbox One. Together, they will provide a good chance for modern gamers to relive the glory of the past while waiting for much-awaited casual titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops.
