Some DELL PC and laptop owners are facing the DELL SupportAssist Another scan is in progress error while trying to update their drivers. This is usually due to the fact that the SupportAssist app sometimes refuses to update itself.
How do I fix the DELL SupportAssist Another scan is in progress error?
1. Uninstall and reinstall DELL SupportAssist
- Begin by restarting your PC to make sure that the system doesn’t load any binaries.
- After restart, make sure that none of the following apps are open: SupportAssist database, SupportAssist log files, SupportAssist UI.
- Now, press Win + R, type services.msc and press Enter.
- Look for the following services click on them and remove them if you find any running: Dell Client Management Service, Dell Data Vault Collector, Dell Data Vault Processor, Dell Data Vault Service API, Dell SupportAssist, Dell TechHub
- Click the Start button, type control panel and select the SupportAssist app from the list of results.
- Go to Add or Remove Programs, locate SupportAssist and then click on Uninstall.
- Finally, download and install the latest SupportAsist app version from the official DELL download page.

2. Install the drivers from the DELL support website
- Open the browser of your choice and visit the DELL Support page.
- Scroll down and you will see the option of either entering the product ID of your PC or clicking on Detect This PC from the right.
- Once the device is identified, you will also get recommendation for driver updates.
- After you install the critical driver updates, try using DELL SupportAssist again.
DELL SupportAssist can get stuck on some drivers, not being able to update them. If you manually install some of the drivers from DELL’s Support page, the app will once again function normally.
Also, the manufacturer recommends that if you still encounter the issue and your system is in warranty, to click on Get Help Now button located at the bottom right corner of the support page to chat with a live agent.Â
