Windows 11 Auto Super Resolution

It’s now more clear than ever that Windows 11 will get the Auto Super Resolution after it was spotted in some Windows files by Windows Insider @XenoPanther.

The AI-powered feature allows for enhancing an image’s quality beyond its original resolution or size. In other words, if you have an image that looks good on its original resolution but greatly loses its quality once you place it in a higher resolution, you could use this feature to enhance the image in such a way it wouldn’t lose its quality after getting it to your preferred resolution.

The feature can be used by creative professionals as it would allow them to automatically fix such images, natively in Windows, without having to resort to third-party apps to do so.

But it can also be used in gaming, where the feature would provide a smoother gaming experience with enhanced details for the supported games.

However, even if Auto Super Resolution is not yet released in Windows, the feature might have a huge drawback: there is a chance it won’t work properly if another Windows 11 feature is enabled.

Spotted by the same Windows Insider, Microsoft offers a hint at how this upcoming feature will work. According to the findings, Auto Super Resolutions might crash while Auto HDR is enabled and working.

Auto HDR is a Windows feature that greatly enhances gaming experiences by offering almost photograph-like details to images within video games. Auto HDR was released to Windows 11 a while ago, and it helped the operating system become the best Windows for gaming.

Once installed, the feature can be easily enabled, so that you can enjoy the most vivid gaming experiences. However, it seems that it will indeed clash with the upcoming Auto Super Resolution feature.

While we don’t know exactly the way ASR will work in video games, we can take a guess: it will most likely enhance the visuals to offer enhanced details. The strings also mention that ASR will make video games run smoothly, so the feature will somehow offer higher FPS rates while at ultra video settings.

However, the fact that Auto HDR has to be disabled for this new capability to properly work is quite disappointing. Considering the new ASR feature is AI-powered, Microsoft should release it with the capability to work alongside existing features made for gaming so that together can offer a more meaningful gaming experience.

We’ll have to wait and see.
