Dev and Canary Insiders get a new version of the Photos app created using Windows App SDK

On April 2, 2024, Microsoft announced in a blog post that a preview version of the Photos app built with the Windows App SDK (WASDK) will be released to Canary and Dev Channels on Windows 11.

If you are a Windows Insider Program member and have opted to receive the latest update for the Dev or Canary channel, you can check out the new Windows Photos app.

Microsoft stated in the blog post:

This change moves Photos to the latest Windows app development platform, with modern UI and other quality and performance improvements.

All the current Photos app features and functionality is still present in this version. However, given the extensive changes, this version may be a little rough around the edges as we continue to polish the experience. To get this experience, Windows Insiders on Windows 11 in the Canary and Dev channels can update the Photos app to version number 2024.11040.1002.0.

Microsoft has also encouraged users to share their comments and suggestions and mentioned that they can use Windows + F to open Feedback Hub under Apps>Photos.

If you also want to try the new features before they are released for general public, join Windows Insider Program, for more details, check this guide.
