ImageDownloader is a portable open-source tool which you can use in order to batch download images from an Imgur album or from your favorite subreddit.

ImageDownloader features

The program comes in a pretty compact download – 396KB- and its basic interface shouldn’t come as a surprise. It features a few setting and tabs for every download task.

The Reddit tab will enable choosing your source subreddit, the page (the available options are: Main, Top, New, Rising, and Controversial) and the post time (last hour, day, week, month, year, and all time).

The Imgur source only needs an album name.

Both tabs allow you to filter by maximum and minimum height and weight. They also allow filtering by aspect ratio.

Basic operations

  • Click on the Reddit tab
  • Type wallpapers in the Subreddit box
  • Click on Select and specify and empty folder
  • Leave the other settings at their default
  • Click on Download and then watch the status panel displaying what is happening

The Local tab is practically a bonus feature that will transfer files from a certain source to a destination folder. It will also filter them by their size or aspect ratio.

A potential issue

One potential problem of ImageDownloader might is use of the Imgur API which features a numeric limit on the number of queries it (or the user as defined by the IP address) can make in a certain period of time. Simply put, users will not be able to download thousands of files in just one  operation. And if too many users are on ImageDownloader in one day, it might stop working until its allowance is reset. The simplest solution is trying later. Users could also add a custom Imgur ID that can give them a personal allowance.

ImageDownloader is a free tool that can be used on Windows 7 and later versions. It’s also available as a free Chrome extension.
