facebook down

Facebook was down, globally, and apparently, millions of users (including myself) were affected by it. The platform automatically logged users off of it, and when trying to log back in, Facebook displayed the ‘Session expired’ error.

According to the downdetector, there were hundreds of thousands of reports globally, and Instagram was affected alongside Facebook, as well.

All the versions of these platforms were affected, including desktop, and mobile devices, and Facebook, and Instagram were not working on Android, or iOS operating systems as well, so it’s safe to say Meta suffered a major outage.

Messenger was also affected by this error, and Facebook let users initiate the login process, but it didn’t respond to their requests. Moreover, even Meta Quest headsets were affected by this outage.

Ultimately, Meta communication leader, Andy Stone, released a statement saying the company is aware of the issues, and it’s working on getting the platforms back online.

And later, Meta released a message, stating:

We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Meta said there was a major disruption on its platform going on currently, and the company promised to fix the issues as soon as possible.

Threads, Meta’s X clone, wasn’t working either, although, WhatsApp, on the other hand, appeared to be working properly.

The Facebook login error seems to be improving, as some users reported they were able to log back into the platform, and a few moments later, Facebook seemed to be back and running again, as I was able to access my profile a few moments ago.

We still don’t know why this outage has happened, but Meta says that the platforms are currently recovering from majoring disruptions:

We are recovering from an earlier outage impacting Facebook Login, and services are in the process of being restored. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Meta

The company will most likely release a statement later today, and in the following days.
