FIFA 20 Ultimate Team, the most popular mode in FIFA 20 is back for a new season.

This game mode will be coming back with even more exciting features.

In the past, you could purchase ICONs on the Transfer Market or find them in Packs.

In FIFA 20 Ultimate Team they are now introducing ICON Swaps.

What exactly are ICON Swaps?

ICON Swaps is meant to be a new way to allow players to unlock select ICONs in exchange for Player Tokens.

As you all probably remember, you can earn Player Tokens by completing the objectives you exchange.

Official patch notes from EA revealed more about ICON Swaps:

In short, there will be 4 unique versions for each of the 89 ICONs in FUT 20 that will each be available during certain periods throughout the year.

These versions are called:

  • Base
  • Mid
  • Prime
  • Moments

They are inspired by the evolution of a real-life football player throughout his career.

For example, Base reflects a time in the player’s career when they were still new and had not yet reached their full capabilities.

On the other hand, Moments focuses on the highlights in an ICON’s career that elevated them to one of the all-time greats.

When will ICON Swaps become available?

Those eagerly waiting for FIFA 20 to launch will have to wait until the 11th of October for the ICON Swaps features to be available.

As for how long will these versions last, each of them has a different timetable:

Base

  • EA & Origin Access Trial until mid-December 2019 only.

Mid

  • This version will be available in packs from the start of the EA & Origin Access Trial until mid-February 2020 only.

Prime

  • This version will be available in packs from mid-December 2019 until the end of FUT 20.

Moments

  • This version will be introduced into packs throughout February 2020 until the end of FUT 20.

Apparently, the exact purpose of introducing ICON Swaps is to encourage versatility in squad building throughout FUT 20, as well as improve their accessibility and availability.
