With words sometimes having multiple meanings depending on context, learning a new language can sometimes be hard. Thankfully though, if you’re trying to quickly find the best translation for a specific word, Microsoft has you covered with a new English Bilingual Dictionary feature on Translator for Bing, and is featured on a post on the Microsoft Translator blog.

Perfect for an English language learner or even English speakers learning a new language, the new feature gives you exactly what is needed to learn the language easier. It displays alternative translations from or to English, examples of words in context, and even an example of translated sentences using the selected word.  The new feature even displays a confidence meter next to each alternative to show how relevant the alternative might be.

The technology behind the new feature uses Microsoft Translator, an automatic translation service that uses statistical analysis to determine the best translation from one language to another. Microsoft claims that because of the way automatic translation works, translations are best when you provide some context to tell the computer how to translate a word.

The new feature is currently only available in translations to or from English. Regardless, Microsoft Translator still supports over 50+ languages through Bing Translate and the Microsoft Translate API.
