2. Test with CD

Firstly, before affirming that the LG DVD player is not working on your Windows 10 computer, you need to ascertain if your DVD drive can play CDs. You can insert a music CD into the DVD drive to find out if it plays.

If the drive is able to play your music CD, that means that the DVD drive is working. Therefore, you will need to download DVD playback software to play DVDs.

3. Run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

  1. Tap on the Windows Key and click on the search bar.
  2. Type troubleshooting and click on Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on View All on the left panel of the screen.

4. Uninstall additional ATA / ATAPI controllers

  1. Open Device Manager.

  3. Uninstall all ATA Channel Controllers by right-clicking them and choosing Uninstall from the list.
  4. After you’ve uninstalled all ATA Channel Controllers, close Device Manager and restart your computer.

5. Reinstall the DVD drive

  3. Navigate to the Exit tab and select Optimal Defaults.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Now press F10 to save the changes and restart your computer.

7. Add another controller

  1. Restart your Windows 10 PC.
  2. Right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (admin).
  3. Type in the following command in Command Prompt and hit Enter: reg.exe add "HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesatapiController0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
  4. Reboot your computer.

Note: Before you proceed, ensure you backup your Windows registry in case you experience trouble afterward. Also, make sure that you are logged in Windows with an account that has administrator privileges.


8. Create a new registry subkey

  1. Log in to Windows with an account that has administrator privileges.
  2. Press Windows key + R.
  3. In the Run command box, type regedit and hit Enter.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following path in it:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
  5. Right-click on atapi, select New, and then click Key.lg dvd player not working on windows 10
  6. Type Controller0 and press Enter.
  7. Now, right-click on the Controller0 key, and then select New and select DWORD(32-bit) Value.lg dvd player not working on windows 10
  8. Type EnumDevice1 and press Enter.
  9. Then right-click on EnumDevice1 and select Modify.
  10. Update the value to 1 in Value Data box and click OK.
  11. Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC.

9. Replace your DVD drive

Sometimes, the LG DVD drive may be faulty leading to the LG DVD player not working on Windows 10 problem; therefore, you may need to get a replacement.

You can easily get another DVD drive from Amazon, or a computer store in your vicinity. Ensure that the replacement is carried out by a professional computer engineer.
