Huawei takes on the Microsoft Surface with the 12-inch ‘Matebook’ running Windows 10

During the Mobile World Congress in Spain, Huawei unveiled their first 12-inch 2-in-1 Windows 10 device called the Matebook. At first glance, it looks like a hybrid of a Macbook and a Surface — and that’s not a bad thing.

The device features a resolution of 2160×1440, with an expected battery life between 9 and 13 hours. The MatePen, which you have to purchase separately, has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. The cool thing about the pen is that it features a laser pointer as well as an eraser. There won’t be a magnetic way to attach the pen to the Matebook, unfortunately.

The device comes in various configurations, starting from a 6th-generation Intel Core m3 processor to a Core m7 processor. System memory ranges from 4GB to 8GB and storage ranges from 128GB to 512GB. Pricing, similar to how Microsoft prices the Surface, ranges from $699 for the base model all the way up to $1599 for the higher-end model. The keyboard, pen, and dock are all separate, costing $129, $59, and $89, respectively.
