KB5044386 allows Windows 11 to support the most complicated Chinese language character

Microsoft has released a new Insider Preview Build for Windows 11, KB5044386, to the Beta Channel. This build introduces “All” instead of “All apps” on the Start menu. It also brings a new Chinese font, security enhancements in Windows Search, and bug fixes.

KB5044386 brings a simplified Chinese font (Simsun-ExtG), which includes 9,753 ideographs supporting Unicode Extensions G, H, and I. Microsoft says the font consists of the highly requested character for Biangbiang noodles, which is said to be the most complicated Chinese character. However, Microsoft notes that some applications may not be able to display these new extension characters yet.

The company also says Windows Search runs IFilters in Less Privileged App Containers (LPAC) in the new build. LPACs are similar to app containers but deny even more permissions by default. The intention is that a process running in an LPAC has access only to the resources it needs, which helps minimize the potential damage a compromised process can cause by limiting its access to sensitive system components and data.

As for the fixes in the new Windows 11 Build 22635.4300, Microsoft has addressed a high-impact explorer.exe crash that affected Insiders while using their PC in the last few Beta builds. It also addresses an issue that was causing the items in the navigation pane in File Explorer to become very spread out (with unexpected padding between each item) for some people.

The new Windows 11 build, however, has several known issues, including:

• After installing the new build, you may find that the Start menu’s all apps list has an unexpected spacing between items.
• Live captions will crash if you try to use it.

Alongside the new Windows 11 build, Microsoft is rolling out an update for the system Clock app that includes two new clock widgets: countdown and timer. To get the new widgets, you’ll need to have the latest Clock app update from the Microsoft Store (version 11.2408.9.0 and higher).
