Microsoft acquires data access management provider BlueTalon

Microsoft announced today the acquisition of BlueTalon, a leading provider of Unified Data Access Control for big data and new data initiatives. The company which has its headquarters in Redwood City, California, is now part of Microsoft’s Azure Data Governance group

BlueTalon was founded in 2013 and helped several Fortune 100 companies to eliminate security blind spots by giving them visibility and control over who has access to which data. The company’s data control solution currently works with various data systems such as Hadoop, RDBMS and big data environments

“The IP and talent acquired through BlueTalon brings a unique expertise at the apex of big data, security and governance,” said Rohan Kumar – Corporate Vice President, Azure Data. “This acquisition will enhance our ability to empower enterprises across industries to digitally transform while ensuring right use of data with centralized data governance at scale through Azure,” the exec added.
