Microsoft to force install Windows 11 version 23H2

If you have been hesitant about installing the latest version of Windows 11 and avoided it all these years, there aren’t many options left!

Microsoft, in a note on the official website, confirmed that they will start to automatically update eligible Windows 11 devices to version 23H2, the latest stable version.

Windows 11, version 23H2, also known as the Windows 11 2023 Update, is now entering a new rollout phase. We are starting to update eligible Windows 11 devices automatically to version 23H2.

This automatic update targets Windows 11 devices that have reached or are approaching end of servicing and it follows the machine learning-based (ML) training we have utilized so far. We will continue to train our intelligent ML model to safely roll out this new Windows version in phases to deliver a smooth update experience.

So, the update primarily targets devices running Windows 11 versions that are past End of Life (EoL) or will soon reach it.

Since it’s a phased rollout, the update will be available to individual users at different times (through Windows Update), based on region and device. Though, you can always manually download Windows 11 23H2 and install it!

At present, Microsoft hasn’t shared a way to opt out of the forced update, and we don’t think it will!

But if you don’t want to install Windows 11 23H2, permanently disabling Windows updates should do the trick. This puts the PC at risk since it will also be missing the latest security updates. So, make sure to use an effective antivirus solution for complete protection!
