Microsoft celebrates 46th anniversary on Twitter by looking back at previous company logos

Microsoft turned 46 on April 4th and the tech giant’s social media team has decided to celebrate this milestone on Twitter by taking a look back at the rather long and amusing history of the company’s logos in a special thread.

The Twitter thread started with a black and white image of the first company logo from 1975 which can be seen below.

Interestingly, an alternate version of this logo from 1975 with the “Micro” stacked on top of the “soft” was also used back in the day. This version has now been colorized with a 1970s color palette (see top image) and is currently the Microsoft Twitter account’s new profile photo. It’s definitely a change from the modern design aesthetic currently used by most companies.

As of the time of this writing, the Microsoft logos for 1980 and 1982 have also be posted. The next logo, that from 1987, will likely be added to the thread in a new tweet sometime later today with the 2012 logo, which is in use in today, following soon after.

In addition to the nostalgic logos, the Microsoft Twitter account has also been posting a bit about the old Altair computers which the company was involved with back in the day. Definitely worth checking out of you’re a fan of retro tech.
