Microsoft Edge: Desktop shortcut for new Enterprise devices

According to Microsoft 365 Roadmap, for the first time, Microsoft is working on bringing a desktop shortcut for the Edge browser on new Enterprise devices, running via Windows Out of Box Experience (OOBE).

The description on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap says:

For new enterprise devices running through Windows Out of Box Experience (OOBE) for the first time, an Edge desktop shortcut will automatically be created. When enterprise users turn on their Windows 11 devices for the first time, they’ll see the Edge shortcut on their desktop. This desktop shortcut will provide users with easy access to their Edge browser without needing to manually pin and configure their setup.

Once the feature is rolled out, the Edge shortcut will be on their desktop once the enterprise users turn on their Windows 11 machines for the first time.

The shortcut will enable users to launch the Edge browser and access the websites and web apps. The feature will be available for all the new Enterprise devices that are running via OOBE for the first time. No existing device will be affected by this change.

The feature, which was added on March 14, 2024, is listed as 388365 on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. It will be released across standard multi-tenant cloud instances and is scheduled to roll out in April 2024.
