Surprisingly, the report published by Statcounter in January 2024 shows how Microsoft Edge managed to get ahead of Safari, Mozilla, and Opera in worldwide desktop browser market share. This might show that there is a growing popularity in the browser. Yet, Chrome remains the one with the highest market share.
Which browser should I pick in 2024?
Statcounter report
To simplify the Statcounter report, we listed the browsers based on their market share percentage.
- Google Chrome – 64.84%
- Microsoft Edge – 12.96%
- Apple Safari – 8.83%
- Mozilla Firefox – 7.57%
- Opera – 3.23%
It is interesting how much Apple Safari fell behind in a matter of months. At the same time, we are surprised that Opera and Mozilla are surpassed by Microsoft Edge in market share, given how many unique features they have. However, Microsoft forces users to use Edge and the Bing search engine by using them as defaults for the search feature. In addition, Microsoft made it harder to switch from Edge.
It is easy to see why Edge managed to rise in rankings. After all, it comes with Windows, it is accessible, it is not as resource-hungry as Chrome, and it uses Chromium. Surprisingly, it even performs quite well.
Is Edge better than Safari?
Microsoft Edge has more customization options and extensions. The browser is somewhat better than Safari for Windows devices. However, for Apple devices, Safari is better optimized and more efficient. Ultimately, it mostly depends on your device type.
By the way, if you are a gamer, we recommend Opera GX. It has a lot of great features like gaming news, discounts, and sales, and it even tells you which platform offers free games.
We tested most of the browsers available, so if you’ve got time, check out the list featuring the best browsers for all devices.
Which browser are you currently using and why? What do you think of Edge? Share your thoughts in the comments, we are eager to hear them.
