Vivaldi 6.2 is introducing a feature called “Browser Windows in Portal.” This feature involves how Vivaldi, an open-source web browser based on the Chromium web browser, similar to Microsoft Edge, handles multiple windows, making the browser faster and more memory-efficient.
Vivaldi is known for its high degree of customization. Users have the ability to customize the appearance and functionality of their browsers according to their preferences by adding or removing features.
By using the React framework for Portal Windows, code sharing between Windows becomes more efficient, resulting in reduced memory and CPU usage and improved performance.
Windows Portal and its effects
- The new approach involves having a single UI document for all windows of the same profile, leading to a more streamlined script context. These architectural changes led to a 37% boost in opening new windows and a 64% faster opening time than the 2018 version.
- The original Window Panel, which started out displaying only the state of tabs in the current window, now has evolved to display tabs across multiple windows. This feature allows users to navigate tabs across different windows more efficiently.
- The Pop-up Windows initiated by websites have been made portal-based, leading to faster and more efficient loading of these windows.
The update also includes several other features and improvements, such as:
- Users can customize the order of the drop-down menu suggestions in the Address Bar.
- On MacOS, Vivaldi now has the same geolocation feature as its Windows counterpart.
- A button in the History panel allows users to clear their browsing history and data quickly.
- New mail filters, support for FastMail OAuth login, and improved filter view buttons.
Overall, the Vivaldi 6.2 update focuses on enhancing browser performance, memory efficiency, and user experience by introducing the concept of Portal Windows and incorporating various feature improvements.
