Microsoft Edge's new Page Colors and Turning off custom scrollbars is making the browser even more accessible

Microsoft has introduced two new settings for its Edge web browser, enabling users to customize their online experience further: Page colors, and Turning off custom scrollbars aim to provide greater control over the appearance and accessibility of web pages.

The Page colors setting is particularly useful for users with vision impairments, color blindness, or light sensitivity. It allows them to adjust web page color schemes to enhance readability.

Once enabled, users can choose from a range of color schemes such as Dusk, Desert, Black, and White directly from the Settings menu or even exclude specific websites from being affected by Page colors.

By default, Page colors are applied to web pages only when a Windows Contrast theme is used, but this behavior can be adjusted to apply Page colors on all web pages, regardless of the theme used.

The second setting, Turning off custom scrollbars, improves the scrolling experience on the web. Users can revert to the default scroll style by turning off custom scrollbars, overriding any customizations that website authors have applied.

Microsoft says this can improve consistency and accessibility for users who prefer the default scrollbar appearance and better accommodate user preferences.

The new features are rolling out now as part of Microsoft Edge 130 and will be available in Edge 132 for Linux users.

In a blog post, the company says introducing these features reflects its ongoing commitment to accessibility and customization in Edge.

To enable the new settings, head to Settings & More > Settings > Accessibility.

To enable Page colors in Edge:

1. Go to Settings and more (…) > Settings >Accessibility.
2. Under the Page colors section, select the color scheme you want to apply. You can choose between the Dusk, Desert, Black, and White theme color values.

To turn off custom scrollbars in Edge:

1. Go to Settings and more (…) > Settings >Accessibility.
2. Toggle the Turn off custom scrollbars setting.
