Microsoft finalises termination of Barnes & Noble partnership with payment and account changes

Barnes & Noble terminated their relationship back in December 2014 and the book giant has now informed its customers that as a result of this termination, the use of Microsoft payment information will no longer work as of the 7th of August 2015 and MS Login will cease to function by the 30th of October 2015.

Barnes & Noble and NOOK users are encouraged to update their information ahead of those deadlines and, if needed, create a new BN.com account which can be linked to any existing Microsoft account information so users can maintain ownership of their purchased books and magazines.

Microsoft’s partnership with Barnes & Noble always had a lot of potential but very little became of it. The two companies even came to blows in a lawsuit related to patented technology. There was speculation that Microsoft would use Barnes & Noble to release their own, Windows branded, e-reader and Microsoft even created their own group called, “Xbox Music, Video, and Reading” but the “Reading” aspect was never really explored.
