Microsoft inaugurates The Garage in India, the newest location in its global expansion

Microsoft today formally inaugurated The Garage in India at its Microsoft India Development Center campus in Hyderabad. The Garage serves as a hub for Microsoft to engage its workforce, with facilities and programs optimized for hacking, ideation, and collaboration accelerating experimentation and innovation in the local context.

In India, The Garage is led by Reena Dayal Yadav who dons the title of Director for The Garage – India. Some of the projects that got their start in The Garage in India and have now progressed into products have been SMS Organizer and Kaizala.

In Hyderabad, The Garage is equipped with state of the art and modern facilities in a 8000 sq ft space and has three dedicated lab sections – a hub for hackathons and workshops, a Makerspace and an Advanced Makerspace with a Reality Room dedicated to working in the space of virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality applications, and a dedicated space and equipment for doing work on Deep Learning.

The Garage enables employees to bring to life innovative ideas and solutions. The Garage program in India will be a connector to bring together people across roles, skills, and experience to lend their passion to create solutions unique to this market.

First started in 2009 at the Redmond headquarters, Hyderabad is now the seventh Garage location across the world. The other spaces are in Silicon Valley, New England, Vancouver, Israel, and Beijing. On the sidelines of the launch, Microsoft also shared that another Garage will be coming to Bangalore within this calendar year.
