Microsoft is advertising a Windows 11 upgrade even if your PC is not eligible

I’ve started one of my older Windows 10 laptops to find a big warning/advertisement from Microsoft:
A new journey with Windows.
We want to thank you for your loyalty as a Windows 10 customer. As end of support for Windows 10 approaches, we’re here to support you on your PC journey.
Your PC is not eligible to upgrade to Windows 11, but it will continue to receive Windows 10 fixes and security updates until support ends on October 14, 2025.
And, of course, I wasn’t the only one to get it. People posted the screenshot on Reddit and Bob Pony pinned the needle on the donkey with his post on X.
We were already bombarded by Windows 10 end of support announcements but at least those were pushed towards users who could actually upgrade to Windows 11 because they had an eligible configuration.
Instead, the latest advertisement is also meant for less fortunate of us who can’t actually perform the upgrade. So the deadline for upgrade is October 14, 2025, but you can get a three year support extension. However, the ESU extension is not free.
Apart from the useful, but pretty mean warning, you can’t just close this window. You only have the options to Remind me later and Learn more. Of course, the first one means that you will be continuously nagged about this while the second actually directs you to the Windows 10 end of support announcement.
The latest Microsoft X post emphasizes the Redmond giant’s push for Windows 11 upgrade. Isn’t burning the Windows 10 flag a bit too extreme, though?
The bottom line is that Microsoft wants you to buy a new Windows 11 compatible PC or upgrade yours to continue the Windows journey. While the advertisement is somehow useful, I think I can speak for many users when I say that there should also be a Never show this again button somewhere on that page.
