Microsoft Paint getting another AI feature that could use NPU

With new version releases, Microsoft is ensuring Windows 11 is deeply integrated with AI and is introducing more and more features to the native apps.

Recently, Paint has been getting several new features, including Layers inspired by Adobe Photoshop and DALL-E 3-powered Cocreator, and these are not it. If you want to know about Cocreator on Microsoft Paint, read this guide.

Another new AI feature will be added soon, which is said to be using a Neural Processing Unit, or NPU. It is a special hardware component that comes with new Windows 11 devices, which enables the machine to handle AI & machine learning tasks.

All this came to light when Windows Latest noticed there is a DLL file named NPUDetect that comes with the new Microsoft Paint, which suggests that this native app on Windows 11 could detect and use a Neural Processing Unit available on the machine in the near future.

The existence of the file sparked rumors that there could be upcoming features that could use NPU capabilities, such as AI-powered image editing tools.
