Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus software developed by Microsoft. This antivirus was released in 2009, and it ran on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  With Windows 8 and Windows 10, Microsoft Security Essentials was replaced by Windows Defender.

If you still use Windows 7, you’ll be pleased to know that Microsoft Security Essentials is still available for download free from Microsoft’s website. Regarding security, Microsoft Security Essentials offers protection against, rootkits, viruses, spyware, and malicious software. Although Microsoft Security Essentials provides decent protection, it doesn’t offer enhanced protection against rootkits and bootkits like Windows Defender does.

Microsoft Security Essentials will provide you basic protection on Windows 7 and older, but a paid antivirus might offer better protection.
