Last week, we learned that traces of Windows 10 build 19480 had been found in languages pack available from the Microsoft Store. Serial leaker WalkingCat confirmed the original scoop from Italian blog Aggiornamenti Lumia, adding in a tweet that Windows 10 Sets, the organizational feature that Microsoft briefly tested in previous Insider builds last year could make a come back in the Windows 10 build 19481.

Well, Brandon LeBlanc from the Windows Insider team has now answered to that tweet to say that the rumor was wrong: Windows Sets isn’t coming back anytime soon, though LeBlanc confirmed the existence of these internal builds mentioned by Aggiornamenti Lumia and WalkingCat. According to LeBlanc, these internal builds “are largely the same as what Insiders are seeing.”

Back at Build 2018, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore said that Windows Sets would make a comeback “when we think it’s great,” and we didn’t really hear anything about the feature from the Windows Insider team since then. According to WalkingCat, the feature could still be present in some ways in the internal Windows 10 builds from the separate development branch that LeBlanc mentioned, though we have no way to confirm this for now.

Windows 10 Sets, which allowed Windows 10 users to group together Edge tabs, Windows 10 apps and more in a single window sounded like an interesting feature when it was still in testing, though at the time the the execution wasn’t that intuitive, and it’s possible that the majority of Windows 10 users would have found it confusing to use. We still don’t know if Windows Sets will make a come back at some point, but Microsoft may well prefer to focus on incremental changes for now, such as the better tablet experience for 2-in-1 PCs that recently appeared in 20H1 builds.
