Microsoft has announced that its messaging app, Microsoft Teams, now has more than 320 million active monthly users. This comes just a few months after the general release of the “New Teams,” a revamped version of the app, for Windows and Mac.

This “2.0” iteration of Teams boasts improved performance (“up to two times faster while using 50% less memory,” according to the announcement post on the Microsoft tech community blog). More specifically, users switching to the New Teams can expect:

  • 3x faster installation
  • 2x faster startup times
  • 1.7x faster switching between chats and channels
  • 2x faster meeting join experience

This in addition to some new features like Copilot integration within Teams, which can do things like summarize meetings etc. for greatly improved workflow and efficiency.

The post states that Classic Teams users will be automatically updated after March 31st, 2024. Microsoft product lead Anupam Pattnaik says of the new and improved Teams: “We have focused on providing high-quality performance and enhancing the basics in areas such as reliability, security, and IT management to make sure that new Teams meet the evolving requirements of your organization.”
