Don’t look now, but Microsoft’s HoloLens augmented reality solution isn’t the company’s only technology that’s tickled Time Magazine’s fancy. Microsoft Translator also made the list, coming in as one of Time Magazine’s Top 10 Apps of 2015.
While HoloLens took the #1 spot, Translator rates a strong #7:

Translation apps are getting increasingly accurate, thanks to cloud processing and other advancements. Microsoft’s latest attempt is one of the best out there, a handy tool for international travelers especially.

Microsoft Translator runs on a number of platforms, including iOS, Android, and as a Universal App for Microsoft’s own Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. Translator supports text translation for 50 languages, voice translation for 18 languages, and picture translation that can display what’s printed on a picture or sign in 19 languages. It’s no surprise, then, that this example of Microsoft’s machine language prowess has gotten Time’s attention.
You can give Translator a try by clicking on one of the links below, but if you’re much of a traveler or have the need to communicate with people from other countries, you’re probably already using Microsoft Translator. One day, we’ll enjoy language translation provided by the artificial intelligence that timeshare inside our brains, but for now, Microsoft’s Translator app is the next best thing.
