Microsoft's Surface 3 looks beyond North America to an Asia-Pacific release

Microsoft stumbled out of the gate with its release of the Surface RT and Surface Pro. The software giant overestimated the demand for a lockdown and sandboxed tablet experience when it over-produced RT tablets. Microsoft also needed some more time to iterate on the Surface Pro design. The Surface Pro at the time was odd shaped, heavy and required a fan. Both tablets were mocked for their software, confusing naming convention and prices.

Another hurdle Microsoft faced was that they initially released their tablets to a North American audience used to iPads. Microsoft then added to their pile of criticism by waiting, far too long, to release their devices to an international community curious and possibly unjaded by the perception of iPads and tablets in general.

Microsoft is slowly trying to silence the original criticism of the Surface line by addressing many of their products unique issues. With the announcement of the Surface 3, Microsoft is also addressing the botched international roll-out of the original Surface products.

According to documentation found by CNET, along with North America, interested customers in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore will be able to pre-order the Surface 3 from the online Microsoft Store on April 2.  Markets outside of the Asia-Pacific region interested in the new tablet, will have to look to Microsoft’s assigned retail partners in their area until May 7.

On May 7, the Surface 3 will be available for global retail in 26 markets. Specifically, the Surface 3 will be available to countries in the Asia-Pacific region including, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong and South Korea. With this announcement, Microsoft realizes that there is a market for their tablet endeavor outside of just North America and Europe. Below is a list of how much the Surface 3 will cost in different countries.
