The Xbox One has now been the best-selling video game console in the United States for four months in a row and has also taken the top position in both Australia and the United Kingdom according to NPD Group sales data.
The increase in console sales in all markets is speculated to be a result of the release of the slimmer, lighter, and slightly more powerful Xbox One S model. This new version of the system features its own 4K Blu-ray drive which makes it one of the cheapest options for consumers looking to invest in a 4K Blu-ray Player. In Australia at least, the Xbox One S is also topping the 4K Blu-ray Player charts as well.
Xbox business lead at Microsoft Australia, Jeremy Hinton, said of the console’s success, “We’d like to thank our fans for their continued support and passion for Xbox in Australia. It’s great to see such enthusiasm for the new Xbox One S & Forza Horizon 3, as well as the range of exclusive bundles including Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1, FIFA 17, and Minecraft – all of which are available now.”
Microsoft’s head of Xbox games marketing in the United States, Aaron Greenburg tweeted his excitement earlier today. “New @npdgroup data shows @Xbox One best selling US console 4th month in a row,” his tweet said. “Thanks for also making us #1 console in UK & Australia!”
