At Ignite 2017 today, Microsoft showcased a slew of new products and technologies powered by the Microsoft Cloud. Now, Microsoft provides a new way to transfer a ridiculous amount of data (100TB) with a rugged 45-pound Data Box to Azure. In this video, Oceaneering International describes how the Azure Data Box helps their business data needs and the data needs of their clients.
While the ability to store data in the cloud with Azure continuously is Microsoft’s ultimate goal, internet connectivity is not always available, or even with a good connection, moving lots of data can be a problem. In the future, Microsoft hopes to provide the perfect Azure Cloud solution, without requiring any physical storage drives on-site.
Other features of the Data Box include the ability to plug right into the datacenter network, as well as supporting standard protocols, including SMB and CIFS. The Azure Data Box also use a 256-bit AWS encryption to secure the data. The Data Box can also be shipped anywhere, no boxing required, using its own e-paper display. Whether enterprises need to upload the data to the Azure cloud or ship the data to a customer, the Data Box provides a very helpful and mobile data storage solution.
