With E3 2016 just a few days away, Director of Program Management for Xbox Mike Ybarra has just teased today on Twitter that the next Xbox One preview build could be released “soon”. However, it’s not clear yet if this new build could include enough new features to generate useful buzz about Microsoft’s gaming console before the annual gaming show:

Back at Build 2016 in April, Ybarra previously revealed that the Xbox One would get a preview release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update end of May/early June. At the time, Ybarra said that the Anniversary update would bring “key gaming features” to the Xbox One, and we already know that Universal Windows 10 apps and Cortana are in the pipeline. Furthermore, Microsoft also explained during the developer conference that all retail Xbox One consoles would be allowed to be converted into devkits for developers at home to test apps and games.

As usual, this upcoming Xbox One preview build will only be available for members of the Xbox One preview program, which is still invite-only. Over the last few months, Microsoft has been consistently releasing monthly preview builds to members of this program before public release, and all Xbox One consoles are currently running version 10.0.10586.1202 of the Xbox One OS which has been released to everyone on April 27.

As a reminder, Microsoft shared during Build 2016 that the Xbox Preview program and the Windows Insider program would come together this summer. However, while the Xbox One Preview program is currently quite similar to the Windows 10 Release Preview Ring, it’s not clear yet if the Xbox One system software could also get the same Insider rings as both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

We can’t wait to learn more about the Xbox One Anniversary Update and we hope this upcoming preview build will bring us a lot of interesting stuff. Let us know in the comments what are the the features you would really like to see implemented in the upcoming big update to the Xbox One.
