‘No Xbox’ briefly trended on Twitter following the news that Oxenfree II would release on most major platforms other than Xbox. The news came out of the game’s release announcement during yesterday’s Nintendo Indie Direct.
Oxenfree II is coming to Netflix, but not Xbox. lol.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is the follow-up to 2016’s indie classic Oxenfree, which released on Xbox and even came to Game Pass. Oxenfree developer Night School Studios was acquired by Netflix in 2021. The sequel may still eventually hit Xbox at some point in the future, but the omission of an Xbox release at launch has raised some eyebrows in the wake of other games that have unexpectedly been dropped from the console.
One notable example is Octopath Traveler II, sequel to another former Xbox Game Pass title. In fact, publisher Square Enix as a whole seems to be avoiding Xbox like the plague, and rumor is that there has been some sort of falling out between the two. In a response to Britain’s CMA pertaining to the Activision Blizzard deal, Microsoft revealed that Square Enix RPG juggernaut Final Fantasy XVI will not be releasing on Xbox due to exclusivity agreements with Sony.
