OpenVPN is a freeware and open-source application used to create and implement virtual private networks (VPN) and other secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections.
It is also used for remote access facilities. The custom security protocol used by OpenVPN utilizes SSL/TLS for key exchange and it can pass over network address translators (NATs) and firewalls.
It was written by James Yonan and is published under the GNU General Public License (GPL). There are also commercial licenses available.
