The physical copies of Xbox games are not as popular nowadays. After all, keeping a CD is a hustle, and it is easier to own a digital copy that remains in your account. Also, Microsoft and other companies started focusing their resources on digital, and it is understandable.

At the end of the day, you don’t want to wait for shipping or to go to the closest game store to get your games. You want to play them right there on the spot. Some retailers don’t even order newer games because they don’t get the chance to acquire them on time.

Xbox physical game copies are less profitable

Earlier this year, Microsoft laid off some of their employees from the physical retail department. In addition to this, there are rumors that the newer console models lack disk drivers. Yet, they have a bigger storage, and better download speeds.

The theory that implies that physical Xbox games are going extinct is a result of retailer claims. In Europe, the physical sales of Xbox games are low and not profitable. So, merchants need to focus on other types of products, like accessories and devices.

The future is Game Pass and Cloud

The Xbox Game Pass allows you to stream from most of your devices. Furthermore, the gaming library gets frequent revisions. More than that, if you get a game pass, you might also get discounts and a chance to get early access to some games. In addition, cross-playing and cloud gaming are getting updates frequently.
