The PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) video game is now available to play for free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Microsoft’s Xbox One consoles.

PUBG has been available to play on the Xbox One as a traditional digital and physical game purchase since late-2017 but making it also available on Xbox Game Pass could encourage even more fans to give it a go on console, in particular the Xbox One.

In a rather strategic move, Sony chose today to announce the PlayStation 4 release date for PUBG, December 7th, with a special announcement teaser video. In addition to the launch date, the video also revealed that the PS4 version of PUBG would boast exclusive items based on Uncharted’s Nathan Drake desert outfit and The Last of Us’ Ellie’s backpack.

It should be interesting to see which platform gamers choose to play PUBG on but with many having already put in almost a year worth of playtime and grinding on Xbox One, it may prove difficult for Sony to convince them to throw away all of that progress and start again on PS4.
