PowerToys 0.83

Microsoft recently released PowerToys 0.83, an update that brings dozens of capabilities and features to Windows 10 and 11 users. It includes a critical revamp for the Awake tool, plus enhancements to various modules.

The Awake tool underwent some quality-of-life changes. It now adjusts its tray icon according to the mode, making it more straightforward for users to notice if their PC is set to stay awake or not. Additionally, you can find fresh general Group Policy Object (GPO) policies and Mouse Without Borders updates, guaranteeing that all your settings are set to meet specific requirements.

Not only this, but there is also better stability everywhere. One example is that the CSV parser in the Advanced Paste feature now accepts double quotes and escape delimiters when pasting as JSON; it’s a great help for those who handle data.

And for people who utilize the Color Picker, they can now go through color history by scrolling mouse wheel. This makes it faster and simpler to discover the shade you require.

The File Explorer add-ons have also been given attention, allowing for copying from the right-click menu in Monaco and Markdown previewers. And if you ever encountered a crash because there were too many entries in File Locksmith, now it is fixed: when you click on an open file of a process to lock or unlock it, this action moves that opened file to another dialog box.

Another feature is stopping a transparency fix code from executing on Windows 10 so as not to create visual errors. An addition involves setting up settings to adjust how the “First week of the year” and “First day of the week” calculations work within the DateTime plugin. Lastly, Quick Accent now allows the use of the Bulgarian character set.

The PowerToys team also released a hotfix for the user-scope installer path issue from 0.82. Mouse Without Borders also received some changes, like disabling non-supported options in the old UI and new GPO policies to control the use of certain features.

The PowerToys 0.83 update can now be downloaded from GitHub and Microsoft Store.
