bethesda france shutdown

The gaming industry can be extremely unforgiving, and sometimes to cut costs, certain teams need to be shut down entirely.

It appears that this has happened to Bethesda France recently, so here’s what we know so far.

Microsoft has supposedly shut down Bethesda France

This rumor comes from Insider Gaming, as many are claiming that Bethesda France was closed. This is no surprise since Microsoft has announced layoffs a few months ago.

The company already had 1900 layoffs in Activision Blizzard following the acquisition. Regarding the rumors of the Bethesda France shutdown, a Twitter user SCOTTY, a community manager at Bethesda France, posted the following tweet recently:

The tweet says the following:

8 years of wonderful encounters, memories that I will never forget, and unique opportunities. A page that is turning and which hurts many people.

In the comments, SCOTTY elaborated that he was let go due to “mass layoffs at Microsoft, globally”.

As for Bethesda France, the company has existed for 12 years and it had 15 employees.

The majority of the workforce was focused on marketing and publishing games in the country, so shutting down the studio won’t affect the development of new titles in any way.

So far, Microsoft hasn’t commented on these rumors, so the shutdown hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

On the bright side, the Fallout franchise had 5 million players in a single day recently, so things are still going pretty well for Bethesda.
