If no QR code is showing up on Signal Desktop, you won’t be able to sync the application with your phone, thus making it useless. However, it’s possible to fix this, and in today’s guide, we’re going to show you a few ways to do it.
Why isn’t my QR code showing up?
This happens if there’s an issue with your application or due to your firewall or proxy settings.
What can I do if there’s no QR code in Signal Desktop?
Before trying anything else, ensure that you have the latest version installed.
1. Unlink the device
- Open Signal, go to File, and choose Preferences.
- Next, go to Privacy and click on Delete Data.
- Confirm that you want to remove it.
- Try pairing your devices again.
2. Reinstall the application
- Click Start and choose the Settings.
- Next, go to Apps and select Installed apps.
- Locate Signal on the list and click the three dots next to it. Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the steps on the screen to remove it.
- Next, press the Windows key + R and type %appdata%.
- Locate the Signal folder and remove it.
- Install the application again.
3. Check your network
- Ensure that Signal can pass through your firewall.
- If you have any proxy enabled on the network, disable it.
- Alternatively, add *.signal.org to the list of exceptions.
- Ensure that WebSocket is enabled on your network.
Can I link the Signal device without a QR code?
Yes, this is possible, but it’s rather complicated. To learn how to do it, visit the signal-cli on GitHub.
If there’s no QR code on Signal Desktop, this is usually a bug with your installation, and that can be easily fixed. Users have reported other issues, such as Signal Desktop not working at all.
Some users also reported that Signal Desktop cannot connect to server, but we have a separate guide that addresses this issue.
