1. Use Google DNS

  1. Open Network and Sharing Center and select Change adapter settings.
  2. Right-click your network connection and choose Properties from the menu.

  3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties.

  4. Select the Use the following DNS server addresses option and set the following values:
    • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8
    • Alternate DNS server: 8.4.4

  5. Click the OK button to save changes.

Some users are also suggesting to set Google DNS for IPv6. To do that, just follow these steps:

  1. Repeat steps 1-2 from the above.
  2. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv4) and click on the Properties
  3. Set the following values:
    • Preferred DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8888
    • Alternate DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8844

Save changes and restart your network connection.


2. Check your antivirus/firewall

  1. Make sure that your antivirus/firewall isn’t interfering with Steam.
  2. If the problem is still there, temporarily disable/remove your antivirus and firewall. Users reported issues with Comodo Firewall and AVG Antivirus but other antivirus applications can also cause this problem.

3. Run ipconfig /flushdns command

  1. Press Windows Key + X and choose Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin) from the menu.

  3. Check if the problem is still there.
