Microsoft releases weekly update builds to the Windows Insider Program: the Dev and the Canary channels will receive the same build for a while, while the other two, the Preview channel, and the Beta channel receive different builds with different sets of updates.
However, all of these builds have one thing in common. According to Windows enthusiast, λlbacore, they all reinstalled the same apps after each Windows Insider update, even though they were uninstalled in the previous build.
λlbacore identified 3 apps:
- Dev Home
- New Outlook
- Consumer Teams (TFL)
Well, if you see them around after each new build, despite uninstalling them before updating to the new Windows Insider version, then you can permanently disable these apps from ever reinstalling.
Note: this is only available in the Windows Insider Program. So you must be enlisted in the program first, for this to work.
This is what you need to do:
First, if you’re an Insider, you’re probably familiar with apps that can help users enable/disable hidden features. We’re talking about ViveTool in this case. In case you don’t know how to use the app, we have a comprehensive guide for you, here.
You’ll use ViveTool to disable the reinstallation of these apps with these IDs:
PreinstallDevHome,43180945
TFLHydrate,44686276
OutlookInstall,44697583
Rebooting your device should effectively set these commands in place. However, keep in mind that you need to disable them before installing any new Windows Insider builds.
