Augmented and virtual reality are slowly becoming big players in the workplace, and yesterday Toshiba unveiled the enterprise-focused dynaEdge AR Headset (via Techcrunch). This “assisted reality” headset is tethered to a battery-powered Windows 10 Pro PC, it and comes in at $1,899 in price.

The headset looks similar to Google Glass, with a single heads-up display fitting over one eye that can out of the way at any time. Other features on the arm of the headset include a touch sensor, camera, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, LED light, GPS, a compass and a gyroscope.

The Windows 10 PC which powers the headset, meanwhile, is tethered to the display arm via a USB-C connection. It features a five-button on-device Navigation system, a USB 3.0 port, a microSD card slot and a headphone/mic combo port. The whole thing is powered by a 6th gen Intel Core processor, and a removable battery that should last up to six hours.

The dynaEdge AR Headset is primarily for frontline workers and for factory related tasks. It can be used in a variety of ways as glasses, or on a hard hat, for navigating through documents, or live streaming videos and scanning QR codes. Toshiba hopes this will give enterprises improved productivity and flexibility, higher quality standard, and more efficient use of resources.

Since the PC on the dynaEdge is tethered via USB C, this is still a far cry from Microsoft’s HoloLens, which has Windows 10 built right in. At any rate, it still is cool, so be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
