Key notes

  • Windows 11 is designed to help you stay up to date and protect your information with enhanced security features.
  • Since its launch in October, the OS has been on a free upgrade offer to all Windows 10 users.
  • To be on the safe side, you should upgrade sooner rather than later before any deadlines are set.

Have you taken advantage of the Windows 11 free upgrade offer yet? It is common to be a bit skeptical whenever a new OS is released but Windows 11 has been out for a couple of months now and from the reviews, it seems to be doing great so far.

If you are still on the fence on whether to make the switch, you can refer to our Windows 10 versus Windows 11 comparison to help you make up your mind.

You can download Windows 11 from Microsoft’s website or upgrade your current PC once you get a notification.

Why should I upgrade to Windows 11?

The best reason for downloading Windows 11 is that it’s the latest version. And if you don’t upgrade, you won’t be able to get the latest features ir new critical updates of the software.

Windows 11 is everything a modern operating system should be. You’ll love its simplicity, ease of use, and speed.

So what happens if you continue using Windows 10? Nothing bad. You can use the OS but at some point, it will stop getting new features, and Microsoft will eventually stop supporting it.

How long does the Windows 11 free upgrade last?

Free upgrades to Windows were a first for Microsoft, helping people upgrade faster than ever before. They typically last a year but for the latest OS released in October 2021, there is no known deadline yet.

In recent times, once the deadline passes, users would continue to get Windows on a new device or purchase a full version at the Microsoft Store.

If you’re using Windows 10, you’ll receive a notification that there is a new update available for download. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade your current PC or laptop to Windows 11.

Provided your PC meets the Windows 11 minimum system requirements, the installation should be seamless.

By default, your files should move forward when you upgrade but you shouldn’t take any chances. Ensure you back up your files in case anything happens.

Is there still a reason you are yet to make the switch to Windows 11? Let us know your reservations in the comment section below.
