I have been looking for a dedicated Windows 8 Gmail app for quite a long while to download and install on my Windows 8 tablet. That’s because Google hasn’t yet decided to release an official Gmail client for Windows 8 users. Third-party app Gmail Touch seems to be the best one that is currently available in the Windows Store
When you go the Windows Store and type “gmail” there, a plethora of Windows 8 apps will appear before your eyes. The problem is that a staggering majority of them are spam and useless apps that you really should avoid downloading on your desktop or touch Windows 8 devices. Gmail Touch is the single one that I can recommend when it comes to trying out the Gmail experience on your Windows 8 tablet.

Reliable Windows 8 Gmail app for your Windows 8 tablet
The app is very basic and comes with a design that isn’t necessarily appealing, but you get used to it really quick. I still rely on the built-in Mail app for my Windows 8 tablet, but if you want a dedicated Gmail app, at the moment, this is the best to choose. Inside the app you will be able to do the basic things – view the inbox, send emails, search through your mail. You can also pin the app to the start screen and thanks to the Windows 8.1 support, you can change its size how you want it to be. At times, I found the app to be slowly loading, so I hope the developer takes care of this in a future release.
Gmail Touch for Windows 8 has been updated multiple times and user interface updates and tweaks have been put in place. The app can be downloaded for free but there’s an advertising square banner in the lower right corner that you will get used to. Or, you can choose to pay $2.99 and get the ad-free version. The app also comes with Badge and Toast Notifications, Multiple Accounts Support and Share target features. We will be monitoring the app and if there will be any worthy updates, we will let you know.
