While we already know that 4K gaming is coming in ‘Project Scorpio’, what we didn’t know was that the Xbox One S will also support 4K gaming, kind-of.
On Twitter, Curtis Bradshaw enquired about whether the Xbox One S will upscale games to 4K, in response Mike Ybarra, the Partner Director of Program Management at Microsoft, simply responded with “Yes,”.
@XboxQwik Can you confirm if xbox one s will upscale games to 4K. All product information seems to indicate this is not the case. #confused

Currently, if you have a 4K monitor, your monitor will handle the upscaling to 4K, where possible. According to this tweet, however, the console will instead do the upscaling. The advantages of this are, as yet, unknown – however, this will likely seem pleasing to those who either didn’t know that their monitor upscales for them or those who like the idea of their console doing the processing instead. Of course, to make use of this upscaling, you will need a 4K monitor.
If you’re still holding out for true 4K gaming, then Project Scorpio will be next on the agenda. Project Scorpio is the codename for Microsoft’s next-generation console, releasing in 2017, which brings True 4K gaming, along with huge performance boosts, packed full of powerful hardware.
