Xbox CEO Phil Spencer was the recipient of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) Lifetime Achievement Awards for 2022 at last weeks DICE Awards in Las Vegas. Held on February 24th, the event was part of the 25th annual D.I.C.E. (Design Innovate Communicate Entertain) summit. The DICE awards, which were created to lend recognition to individuals, games and development teams that have made significant contributions to digital software entertainment, have been called the video gaming industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.
The award was presented to Spencer by none other than Bethesda Game Studios game director and industry legend Todd Howard, in recognition of Spencer’s work at Microsoft and Xbox, particularly in overseeing development and launch of the brand’s latest console, the Xbox Series X/S.
Following the ceremony Spencer offered additional comments in an interview with IGN’s Kat Bailey, in which he said that, “We have a responsibility to everyone in this business.. to ensure that this entire industry is about treating every single person with dignity and respect.”
